Barak
Barak shook his head in irritation when it started to rain. He pulled his cloak around his shoulders more and spread it out over what he could of his stallion. He'd raised the animal himself since it was a colt and didn't fancy it getting sick just yet. It was difficult to find a horse colored like red wine, and even more difficult to tame it as he did.
It wasn't long before they were away from home enough to be suspicious of movement in the trees. He was glad he had put his scabbard around his waist when he noticed a fallen tree blocking the way ahead, since it would be hard to draw with the cloak in the way. "Sir," he started quietly to De'ach. "I do believe we should be cautious here."

Kaedri and De'ach
De'ach reigned his horse in and let his hand fall to the hilt of his sword. Barak was right. He had rode this route a mere six hours before and nothing blocked their way to the D'gran border. He swore and dropped down from his horse.
He looked at Barak. "Order the men to keep the Queen safe," De'ach ordered, becoming the Commander he was. "Then prepare for battle, my friend."
A small voice from behind him caused him to frown. "De'ach? What's going on?"
"Kaedri. Stay back and out of sight," he ordered.
"I can help," she informed him. "You know I can."
He narrowed his eyes on her. "You are an apothecary, not a soldier," he told her. "You need to stay back, sister."
Kaedri felt her anger rising and she clenched her fist, falling back behind the carriage. As she took her place once again, she heard a rustling to her left. "General Barak," she said quietly as he approached the carriage. "Something comes..."

Barak
Barak frowned at Kaedri's words, drawing his sword and yelling, "In your positions, men! Defend the Queen to your last breath," almost simultaneously. The others huddled together at the ready, weapons drawn and ready to go.
A low grunt was his only warning before a body lunged from the trees, clutching a bloodied mace in one hand. Barak reacted quickly even as more orcs rushed forward, removing the arm brandishing the weapon instantly.
He kicked the orc in the head as it lay on the ground, knocking it unconscious instantly. Barak snorted in disgust at the creatures. "Ambush... Cowards," he nearly spat out.

Kaedri and Doryn
Kaedri jumped back at the sounds of the orc jumping through the trees. She was terrified of the creatures. Perhaps it was because they killed her father, she didn't know. The mere thought of the creatures made her shiver. Still, she froze and watched Barak knock the thing unconscious. She looked at him for a moment before summoning her strength. She looked to Barak he seemed to be ready to battle. "What can I do?"
As she spoke another soldier came up on her right. Kaedri recognized him immediately as the General of the Royal Guard. He smiled at her and winked. He was obviously enjoying himself. That relization caused Kaedri to sigh. Men, elven or otherwise, were all the same. Doryn, she could honestly say, was one of the more civil elves she had been forced to meet. She was never ashamed to say hello to him as he passed. He was always pleasant.
Doryn stood with his back to the apothecary, Kaedri. The girl looked terrified and he would have felt bad for her if it weren't for the orc that rushed him. With a smooth motions of a trained warrior, he elbowed his shield up, catching the orc under the chin. As he stumbled back, he sent his sword through the orcs stomach. Proud of himself, he looked at his men, all making a quick kill of the first volley.
"Protect the carriage. None get through!" he shouted. He glanced over his shoulder to Barak and smiled. "Come on, Barak, let her join in the fun."

Barak
Barak parried a blow, grunting with the effort before planting his boot in the orc's stomach. The orc stumbled back and Barak turned to Doryn with a mildly annoyed look. He turned back to the orc, ducking under it's blow before driving his sword into it's stomach.
"Look," he said, pausing to block another blow before drawing a small dagger from his belt and stabbing a nearby orc in the bicep as it tried to rush past. "I'd be all for help, so long as she remains safe!" He ducked as the orc he'd stabbed in the arm swung at him, missing Barak and hitting the orc who'd swung at Barak earlier.
He turned his gaze to Kaedri. "Just stay out of striking range and make sure one of us can get to you if you're overwhelmed," he said before slashing open an orc's chest.

Kaedri, Doryn and De'ach
Doyrn smiled at Kaedri. "Stay close to me. If you can't handle it yourself," he said, stabbing at another orc who jumped out of his reach.
Kaedri nodded and stepped from behind him. She closed her eyes and Doryn could feel the heat coming from her. He smiled, knowing what was about to happen. Of course he knew what she was. Barak did as well. They were guardians after all. He stepped to the side.
Kaedri's eyes flew open, her iris glowing orange a moment before her hands were surrounded by flames. She threw a bolt of fire at the same orc that Doryn had attacked and cringed at his screams of pain. She concentrated again, seeing an orc, knife blade between his teeth, approaching the carriage door. Her eyes flashed the deep gray of the clouds of the severe storms in the Lightning Deserts and a gust of wind knocked the orc back from the door and another ball of fire igniting him before he hit the ground.
"I said guard the damn carriage," Doryn barked, his men snapping back to their positions.
De'ach caught Kaedri out of the corner of his eye. He had never seen her use her abilities before and he found it a little disconcerting. "You heard the General. Surround the carriage," he told them.

Barak
Barak's head snapped up as Kaedri used her magicks. The orcs started at the display, a few of them turning and running quickly. "Drive them back!" he shouted before going on the offensive against the orcs who insisted on staying.
He ducked under what would have been a killing blow and drove his sword into the orc's heart, both of them grunting with the action. Barak shoved forward, placing the dying creature's body between him and oncoming attackers before kicking out to free his sword and push the others off balance.
He slashed out at one, missing by inches. While he was pulling out of attack range a battle axe came within scant inches of his chest, hitting his left arm instead. He couldn't feel the pain now from the fleshwound, but knew it would be bothersome later. Barak grabbed the axe and pulled himself forward with it, stabbing the monster when he was close enough.

Doryn
"Drive them back!"
Doryn heard the shout for them and he turned to his men. His face was spattered with the deep green blood of the fallen orcs and he could feel Kaedri close against his back. He sighed realizing that she shouldn't have been involved in the fighting. He didn't know what he had gotten himself into. Maybe it was the fact of the power he knew that she could wield that had prodded him.
"Form up!" he shouted at his men. Immediately the soldiers of the royal guard surrounded the carriage, shields raised to protect themselves and those next to them. "HEAVE!"
With great calculate movements, the guards bashed their shields into the charging men. The orcs flew backwards and the elves stepped forward and shoved again. With a cry, the orcs scattered back through the woods. That is all except one.

Kaedri and De'ach
Kaedri saw the last orc heading for the carriage once more and stood close to Doryn. She knew that he would hesitate to let her through so she ducked underneath his shield. She summoned a storm above them. She closed her eyes and opened her clenched fist. With a blinding flash and a violent scream, the orc was gone.
She tried to ignored the fear in the eyes of most of the soldiers and stepped back. "There. That's done."
De'ach shook himself, glancing at his two generals. He noticed that neither Barak or Doryn were shocked by Kaedri's abilities. Truth was, he was her brother (well, adopted anyway) and he it creeped the hell out of him.
"All right! Clear that tree," De'ach ordered. "Then we ride hard until we arrive in D'gran. We should make it by midnight."

Barak
Barak nodded and grabbed some rope from the saddle of his horse. Never knew when it might be useful, after all, especially during potentially dangerous missions such as this. He approached the tree and wrapped part of the rope around one of the branches, tossing the other half to the other side of the tree.
One of the men grabbed the other side and copied Barak's wrapping around a branch. "Alright, take a side and pull on command."
